It earns its keep in the specific window most people actually have a fruit-fly problem: peak summer, ripening produce on the counter, windows open. Plug it into the kitchen and the difference after 2-3 days is the kind of thing you don't notice until you realize you haven't swatted anything in a while.

It's not going to handle a full infestation or larger flying insects — it's built for the small stuff that breeds around fruit and drains. Cartridges need replacing periodically, so factor that into the ongoing cost.
